Women leading the way: Inspiring tales from our learners’ families 

Sooner or later, those who win are those who think they can. And sometimes, when we are confident, all we need is a little support. Here’s a shout out to all the families who are not afraid to support women!

Resonating with that thought, we decided to speak to some of our female learners and their families to bring to you some incredible stories of how they have emerged against all odds to become the new-age empowered women of the 21st century. All these magnificent women have one thing in common – equally determined and supportive families who are ready to go all the extra mile to stand by the girls and women in their families to help them achieve their dreams. Read on to know their story, their struggles, their success and cheer them on this Women’s Day! 

“My daughter is breaking barriers despite her health problems. And I support her”  

Omanshi’s parents had already made one of the biggest and toughest decisions of their lives. To make their young daughter live in a different city from the tender age of 6 years to ensure her education is not hindered. However, fate had other plans for them when Omanshi had to be brought back home to undergo an open-heart surgery. Her parents resolved to never separate from their daughter again.  

Despite all the hurdles, they wanted their daughter to never stop dreaming. Encouraging her to pursue her dream degree, Omanshi’s mother, Arthi devi says, “Considering her health situation, we decided that pursuing an online degree would be the best choice for our daughter. Amazingly, she can get a degree from home. We have always been supportive of Omanshi’s choices and decisions. We don’t know what her future holds, but her financial independence is of utmost importance to us”.

“My daughter’s degree does not come at the cost of her passion for music. And I support her”  

Babitha Sharma is a proud single mother of two incredible daughters. Babita’s elder daughter is a doctor, and now she’s playing a pivotal role in fueling her younger daughter’s dreams and aspirations.   

“I’ve always supported my daughters’ passions. Sruti is a multitalented girl who’s passionate about music, graphic design, and computers. While she’s already pursued a course in graphic design and is currently working on her passion for music, she also loves computers. So, she chose an online degree so that she can parallelly pursue her other interests,” says Babita Sharma, Sruti’s mother. “My daughter is studying online because she couldn’t attend regular college. And I support her.”  

Hailing from the small town of Phulwari, Bilhaur, Khushi Shukla’s family consists of her father, mother, and younger brother. Unable to attend regular college due to personal reasons, Khushi chose an online degree. “We felt the need for our daughter to study even though she couldn’t attend college. And I believe that it is very important for girls to be educated for our nation to progress. I think Manipal University Jaipur is doing a great job by providing degrees online so she can study from home,” says Sunil Kumar Shukla, Khushi’s father.

“My daughter chose to study more than my son. And I support her.”  

They say, “If you educate a woman, you educate a family, a nation.” This holds true in the life of our learner, Kainaz Firdausi. She comes from a family with a lineage of PhD holders and master’s degree holders, where education is seen as the most valuable asset in their lives.   

“I have three daughters and one son, and I have never been partial towards anybody. Everyone deserves to be educated. Also, I belong to a family where everyone is well-educated. One of my sisters is a PhD holder, another one is an advocate in the Delhi High Court. Now I’m supporting Kainaz’s dream of pursuing BCom and will stand by her even if she wants to study further,” says Misbah Firdausi, Kainaz’s father.  “The funny part is my daughters are smarter than my son,” he jokingly says.

Kainaz belongs to a family that values education and Online Manipal is proud to play a key role in her educational journey.  

“My daughter is striving to be financially independent. And I support her”  

The whole world’s structure went haywire during the Covid-19 pandemic, severely affecting job and education domains alike. However, online education came as a savior to students as they could study from their homes. When our learner Isha Gupta was worried about how she would continue her education, she came across MUJ’s online degrees. Isha and her parents didn’t want her to take a break from her studies. Speaking about the importance of education, Neeraj Gupta, Isha’s father says, “During Covid, attending regular college was out of the question. However, I didn’t want my daughter to sit idle, so we decided that an online degree was the best choice. Also, considering that my daughter wanted to be financially independent, MUJ’s online degree is equal to a traditional degree, and we are confident she will be able to find a job.”  

 “My wife’s online degree is helping our business. And I support her” 

Our online learner Sneha took a break from academics due to personal reasons. However, her husband, Hariprasad, stepped up and encouraged her to continue her studies and pursue her aspirations. “As a supportive husband, I prioritize helping my wife achieve her dreams. Although I haven’t studied much I did not want that to stop her from studying. Now my wife’s BCom degree has become very beneficial for our business,” says Hariprasad.  

An advocate of equal opportunities in education and empowerment, Hariprasad says he will continue to stand as a pillar of support in Sneha’s online learning journey.  

“My daughter is funding her degree & supporting the family financially. And I support her.”  

Evangelin Lenin, online BCom 

Our online learner Evangelin Lenin is, in all true essence the definition a modern independent woman. She is self-funding her degree and shouldering her family’s responsibilities, and her mother, Jasmine Lenin, is proud of her. She’s been able to achieve this also because of MUJ’s affordable and flexible online degree.   

“In my perspective, both daughters and sons deserve equal opportunities in education. However, providing additional education to girls contributes to the holistic development of society, given their pivotal role in passing down knowledge to future generations. With two daughters, I prioritize and give equal importance to both their education and overall growth. Presently, she is pursuing a flexible online degree from Manipal University Jaipur while actively contributing to supporting the family,” her mother Jasmine says.
