Anyone weighing up ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) as a career route in India tends to ask the same first question: what does it actually pay? The honest answer is that ACCA salary in India is not one number but a range that shifts with experience, employer, and city. But the pattern across that range is fairly consistent, and worth laying out clearly.

It also helps to look at the number in context. India has one of the largest pools of ACCA students and members outside the UK, and that pool keeps growing as more multinational finance functions, shared-services centres, and consulting practices set up shop in Indian cities. That demand is exactly why ACCA pay in India has held up well even as the market for finance talent has become more competitive — employers are not just hiring for the qualification on paper, they’re hiring for the mix of IFRS knowledge, audit exposure, and reporting discipline that ACCA training is built around.

What is ACCA

ACCA is a globally recognised accounting and finance qualification, respected in the UK, parts of Europe, the Middle East, and increasingly in India through multinational finance and shared-services roles. It is often positioned alongside CA and CPA as a route into audit, taxation, financial reporting, and corporate finance, with the added advantage of international portability. An ACCA qualification earned in India is recognised the same way in Dubai, London, or Singapore, which is not something every domestic qualification offers.

The syllabus itself is built in stages such as Applied Knowledge, Applied Skills, and Strategic Professional. Candidates typically combine exams with practical work experience (three years of relevant experience is required for full membership). This is one reason salaries tend to increase in a predictable way. As candidates clear more ACCA papers and gain experience, employers can better assess their knowledge and often offer higher salaries accordingly.

Salary by Career Stage

Broadly, ACCA pay in India moves through four stages:

  1. Fresher / newly qualified: around ₹4-8 LPA, with Big 4 firms and metro-city employers usually paying toward the top of that band.
  1. Mid-career (2-6 years): roughly ₹10-18 LPA, typical of roles in FP&A, audit, controllership, and reporting.
  1. Senior roles: ₹20-40 LPA and above, covering manager, senior manager, and director-level positions, with CFO-track roles going further still.

These are not hard ceilings. Individual offers vary by employer size, sector, and how many ACCA papers a candidate has cleared. But they give a realistic sense of what to expect at each stage.

Career stage Typical annual salary (India) What this usually looks like
Part-qualified / student ₹2.5 – 6 LPA Junior audit, finance, or accounts roles while still clearing papers
Fresher / newly qualified ₹4 – 8 LPA Big 4 firms and metro postings tend to sit at the higher end
Mid-level (2–6 years) ₹10 – 18 LPA Common in FP&A, audit, controllership, and financial analytics
Senior level ₹20 – 40 LPA+ Manager, senior manager, director, and CFO-track positions

Why Bengaluru Pays a Premium

City matters more than most people expect. Bengaluru in particular tends to offer stronger ACCA compensation than many other Indian cities, largely because of its concentration of multinational companies, global capability centres (GCCs), fintech firms, and audit and consulting practices.

Entry-level ACCA roles in the city often start somewhat above the national average, and the gap widens further up the ladder as competition for finance talent in MNCs and GCCs pushes offers higher. Rather than having a fixed salary, professionals in these cities typically earn more than the stage-wise salary ranges mentioned above.

Big 4 Versus Industry Roles

Big 4 firms (Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC) generally pay more than smaller domestic accounting or finance firms, particularly for candidates who are ACCA-qualified or close to finishing their papers.

That said, industry roles – in-house finance teams at MNCs, fintech companies, or GCCs can match or exceed Big 4 pay once a candidate has a few years of specialised experience and often come with faster movement into leadership tracks.

What Actually Moves the Number

A handful of factors tend to explain most of the variation in ACCA pay:

  1. Experience – the single biggest driver, unsurprisingly.
  1. Papers cleared – being fully qualified versus part-qualified changes both the roles available and the pay attached to them.
  1. City and employer type – metro cities and MNCs/GCCs generally out-pay smaller cities and domestic firms.
  1. Industry – sectors like fintech, consulting, and audit tend to pay differently from traditional manufacturing or domestic services.
  1. Internships and prior experience – relevant internships during the ACCA journey often translate into a stronger starting offer.

ACCA Versus CA: A Quick Word on Pay

This comparison comes up often enough to address directly. In the early years, Indian Chartered Accountants (CA) sometimes out-earn ACCA professionals in purely domestic roles, since CA is still the default qualification for statutory audit and taxation work under Indian law.

ACCA tends to pull ahead in roles with an international dimension reporting under IFRS or US GAAP, working with global finance teams, or sitting inside an MNC’s shared services or GCC setup. where its global recognition and English-law grounding are a direct advantage. In practice, many finance professionals now pursue both, using ACCA to widen the roles they’re eligible for rather than treating the two as competing choices.

The Takeaway

If you’re wondering whether ACCA is worth it, the salary figures are encouraging. Freshers can earn around ₹4–8 LPA, mid-level professionals typically earn ₹10–18 LPA, and senior professionals can make ₹20 LPA or more. Salaries are often higher in cities like Bengaluru and with employers such as the Big 4. While the qualification offers strong earning potential, your salary also depends on your experience, skills, and the number of ACCA papers you have completed.
