Farshad Asl once said, “Simplicity is the language of leadership,” and this is the principle that Dr. Animesh Jain lives by. He is an extraordinary doctor who is grounded, observant, and above all compassionate. His humility and deep sense of simplicity make him a natural leader.

A former student of Kasturba Medical College (MAHE), he has also done his online MBA in Marketing from Manipal University Jaipur (MUJ). With his lifetime commitment to learning, he has been recently awarded a Fellowship by the Society of Biological Scientists of India (SOBSI).

A Continuous Learner, An Ever – Curious Mind: Journey of Dr. Animesh Jain

Dr. Animesh Jain’s path through academia tells the story of someone who genuinely loves to learn and believes in healthcare that prioritizes people first. His journey began at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, where he completed both his MBBS and MD in Community Medicine. These early years shaped his passion for community health and teaching the next generation of doctors.

But Dr. Jain didn’t stop there. He went on to earn a Diploma in Family Health from Sri Ramachandra Medical College in Chennai, driven by a desire to understand healthcare from a family’s perspective. Later, he realized that good medicine is not just about treating a disease; it is also about treating people with dignity. This understanding led him to pursue a Post Graduate Diploma in Bioethics and Medical Ethics from the Centre for Ethics at Yenepoya University.

Always curious and eager to grow, Dr. Jain recently added an online MBA from MUJ to his credentials. Why? Because he understands that leading change in healthcare requires more than clinical expertise. It requires the ability to manage, inspire, and navigate complex health systems.

His Guiding Philosophy

He often says, “Wise is the man who learns from others’ mistakes,” a reminder for everyone that we must be observant of other’s mistakes to not repeat them by ourselves. This mindset has shaped how he approaches students, colleagues, and the community, always curious, humble, and ever ready to learn!

Why Medicine? Childhood Memories, Compassion, and a Sense of Purpose

Dr. Jain always had a deep desire to pursue medicine since childhood. This started from the moment he and his family had to rely on a family doctor during a serious illness, which left a lasting impression. So, in a society where careers were only limited to engineering or law, he chose medicine because it’s noble, meaningful, and centered on service.

Though his mother encouraged him strongly, Dr. Jain’s choice was never about prestige or money. Instead, he had a genuine desire to help people, take care and make a huge difference in their lives. These early motivations drove him to pursue MBBS at KMC, Manipal, and eventually led him toward community medicine and public health service.

Advancing Medical Education and Community Health Research

Dr. Animesh Jain is a Professor in the Department of Community Medicine at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, part of Manipal Academy of Higher Education in Manipal (MAHE). His research topics include medicine and allied health specialties, focusing on critical areas including adolescent health, road traffic injuries, bronchial asthma, malaria, and so on.

Furthermore, he actively mentors undergraduate and postgraduate students while serving as a supervisor, guide, and examiner for doctoral candidates. His current research explores innovative approaches in medical education, particularly in the domains of professionalism and task-based learning methodologies.

This is what makes him an exceptional learner because with a deep commitment to health professional education and faculty development, Dr. Jain has found time to complete his online MBA from MUJ.

The MBA Journey at Manipal University Jaipur (MUJ)

For Dr. Animesh Jain, pursuing an MBA at Manipal University Jaipur was not just an academic decision. More than that, it was a personal milestone for him because it made him revisit an identity that he once set aside.  After years of clinical practice, teaching, travelling, and shaping healthcare minds, he stepped once again into the role of a student, this time by choice and deep self-motivation.

He describes the experience as ‘a holistic feeling,’ one that made him enjoy and experience the joy, curiosity, and humility of being a learner again.

Even though he is highly qualified as a healthcare professional, he wanted to earn an MBA as well to broaden his perspectives, to understand organizational systems and management principles. Along with it, an MBA would also equip him with several leadership practices and decision-making frameworks.

He often reflects that while he may not consciously apply every lesson every day, the “principles stay with you”, surfacing when needed, guiding choices, improving how he leads, teaches, and manages responsibilities. He admits candidly that having those “MBA letters” next to his name give him a quiet sense of pride which was earned not through convenience, but through commitment and discipline.

Yet, beyond the pride of the degree of MBA, it also brought him something more profound, that is, the happiness of being a student again. He once again was in the cycle of submitting assignments, engaging in discussions, and learning alongside peers from diverse fields. It gave him a renewed sense of belonging to the larger Manipal community, which is something he has carried for decades with loyalty and pride.
