Is it mandatory for all online students to have an Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) account?
Yes. From the academic year 2022-23, it has been made mandatory for all universities offering courses in online or distance learning modes to create ABC accounts for all their students as per the UGC regulation and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) is a digital storehouse of the credits earned by students during their academic journey. It is a credit bank for students that allows them to accumulate, verify, transfer, and redeem their credits. This is an initiative from the Ministry of Education, Government of India to enable academic flexibility and students’ mobility across multiple Higher Education Institutes (HEIs). The University Grants Commission (UGC) has mandated that every learner who is an Indian national needs to submit the following details for creating their ABC account:
- Roll number issued by the university
- Aadhar number (12 digits)
- Name (as mentioned in Aadhaar)
- Gender
- Date of Birth
- Mobile number (linked to their Aadhaar)
The university will reach out to enrolled students for details required to create their ABC accounts and will provide these details to the UGC. Once the ABC account is created, the credits earned by the learners in their term-end exam will get deposited into their respective ABC accounts which they can redeem within 7 years. Will I have access to Manipal Academy of Higher Education’s alumni network?
Yes. Students of the online degree programs will join the Manipal Academy of Higher Education’s alumni network with all associated privileges. As an alumnus, they can interact with peers and build their professional and personal network with professionals from across the globe. They will be given access to the Manipal Academy of Higher Education alumni portal.
Can students take online examinations from any device?
Students can take up online examinations from any desktop/laptop with the latest version of the Google Chrome browser installed.
If I am eligible for a scholarship and also pay the entire fee upfront, can I avail both the scholarship and the fee concession (for full payment)?
Yes. All learners who pay the full program fee upfront can avail 5% fee concession on total program fee upon approval. In addition to the fee concession, if a learner is eligible for a scholarship, he/she can avail the same. The scholarship amount will be calculated on the total program fee.
What is the evaluation & assessment pattern?
The assessment system has been conceived, developed and administered on a rigorous and fair basis to bring out the best in students and prepare them for a successful career.
A student’s performance evaluation will be based on both Internal Assessment (IA) and End Term Examination (ETE). The assessment ratio of IA to ETE is 30:70.
Internal assessment is based on learner’s participation in discussion board, performance in assignments, performance in unit wise graded quizzes and percentage of content access.
At the end of each semester, the student is required to appear for the End Term Proctored Online Examination.
A student must score at least 40% in Internal Assessment (IA) to become eligible for End Term Examination (ETE).
A student must score at least 40% term-end examination to be declared as having passed in a subject.
How will scholarships be processed for eligible candidates?
Once a candidate’s scholarship is approved during admission, the scholarship benefit shall be applied as per the below table-

For example- In the case of semester-wise fee payment, Semester-1 scholarship benefit shall be applicable in the subsequent semester ie- scholarship benefit of both Semester 1 & 2 shall be applicable while registering for Semester – 2. Thereafter, from Semester – 3, the current semester scholarship benefit shall be applicable.
What is the grading pattern?
The university uses 10 Point Grading System – A+ (10), A (9), B (8), C (7), D (6), E (5), F-Fail (0)
If I am funding my fee through a bank loan, can I apply for a fee concession for upfront payment of full program fee?
Learners who arrange for bank loans on their own can avail fee concessions for upfront fee payment. Learners whose loans are facilitated by Online Manipal (including subvention and zero cost EMIs) cannot avail this fee concession. However, they may avail scholarships provided they qualify for them.
What if I fail to clear some papers/subjects?
If you fail to clear any paper/subject in End Term Exam (ETE), you must apply for re-sit exams whenever the University conducts by paying a requisite fees/paper.

*EMI amount mentioned above is applicable for the entire program fee and would need to be paid monthly, for the full duration of the program.

Manipal Academy of Higher Education follows UGC regulations for refund of course fee.
- 15 days or more, before the formally-notified last date of admission – 100% refund*
- Less than 15 days before the formally-notified last date of admission – 90% refund
- 15 days or less, after the formally-notified last date of admission – 80% refund
- 30 days or less, but more than 15 days after the formally-notified last date of admission – 50% Refund
- More than 30 days after the formally-notified last date of admission – No Refund
